Securities and Exchange Commission Act is adopted in Washington, D.C.

Signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the legislation creates the Securities and Exchange Commission to regulated the nation’s financial industry. Joseph Kennedy is appointed chairman of the new commission on July 2, 1934.
